USDA extends its summer meal program, allowing all students to pick up meals and snacks at no charge

The West Contra Costa Unified School District will resume features of its summer meal program allowing all WCCUSD students to pick up breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks at no charge at 15 school locations in the District.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Monday that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was extending features of its summer meals program through the end of 2020. The feature allowed WCCUSD to distribute over 3 million meals from March to August to children ages 18 years or younger, regardless if they qualified for free and reduced-priced meals.

 

Breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks are available from 8 am to 1 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the following schools:

  • De Anza, El Cerrito, Kennedy, Pinole Valley and Richmond high schools
  • Dejean, Helms, Hercules and Pinole middle schools
  • Bayview, Nystrom and Riverside elementary schools
  • Montalvin Manor, Peres and Verde K-8 schools.

Meals for Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be distributed with the Tuesday and Thursday meals.

Returning to the summer program means that families will no longer need to show their child’s student ID number. All students and families are still required to complete their lunch application by the end of September to be eligible to receive meals beginning in January.
